Do birds actually migrate?

This interactive map hopes to answer the above question. I scraped over 570,000 confirmed American bird sightings from iNaturalist.org and compiled them together into this app.

Select a bird from the menu below, then choose to display either data in a given month or the average location of the bird in each month. The 'Draw Migration Path' will animate an approximate migration route for the bird, based on the observations made by users on iNaturalist.

* The reason why the country is split for birds that appear on both halves of the country is in attempt to improve accuracy of coastal birds. If a bird is only found on the east/west coast, an average would place it in the midwest, which would be inaccurate.
